Summary
Satisfactory starting areas offer a different experience for each location. The starting zones vary from rolling green fields to high cliffs or rocky deserts. It's worth noting, however, that each zone is simply the area the player starts in, as Satisfactory only has one interconnected map. This means that even if starting from the Grass Fields, players can explore and build in other locations by simply traveling there. However, be ready for a journey as the map is very large, and traveling to these zones can be difficult and time-consuming.
How to Change the Starting Area on a Satisfactory Server
1. Launch the game and load the server using the Server Manager.
2. Go to the Create Game tab.
3. Choose a starting area. Each area has unique aspects described in the table below.
Config Setting | Description | Difficulty |
Grass Fields |
The first viable building location that FICSIT had found stood out due to its open and flat fields, making this a great location for beginners. The distances between mining locations may require building transport lines or outposts. |

|
Rocky Desert |
The textbook example of a FICSIT-approved building location. This spot has well-balanced resources, space, and distances to mining nodes. This starting zone is also very close to a water source, which can be used to manufacture oil. |

Northern Forest | A lush building location with large cliffs and few open areas, challenging conventional building and planning. However, this area is very rich in resources, proving a fitting reward for creative architects. |
Advanced |
Dune Desert |
A risky starting zone with large open spaces and many nearby mining locations. Both foliage and water are rare and contained, which can initially make setting up power more of a challenge. |
