Summary
A Sniffer is a passive, ancient mob introduced in Minecraft 1.20. It is known for its ability to sniff out and dig up ancient seeds for unique decorative plants. Sniffers do not spawn naturally and must be hatched from Sniffer Eggs, found in suspicious sand blocks in Ocean Ruins. Once hatched, the Snifflet grows into a Sniffer, which roams the overworld, sniffing and digging up seeds.
How to Get a Sniffer in Minecraft
1. Craft a Brush. It requires 1 feather, 1 copper ingot and 1 stick.
2. Find a Warm Ocean biome. The Warm Ocean biome features an aquamarine water tone at the surface and frequently forms adjacent to deserts and badlands.
3. Locate an Ocean Ruins underwater. Ocean or underwater ruins are oceanic structures primarily composed of stone bricks or sandstone. They come in cold and warm variants and vary in size, ranging from large villages to single ruined huts. These structures contain chests and suspicious blocks that hold a variety of loot.
4. Once found, look for Suspicious Sand at the base of the structure.
5. Brush Suspicious Sand blocks until a Sniffer egg is obtained. On average, fifteen blocks of suspicious sand must be brushed before the first Sniffer egg is found.
6. To hatch a Sniffer egg, place it in its block form. The egg will crack over time and hatch after cracking twice. It hatches in 10 minutes when placed on moss blocks or 20 minutes when placed on any other block.
7. The Snifflet will emerge from the egg and grow into a Sniffer after 40 minutes or two in-game days.
8. Two Sniffers can be bred by giving them torchflower seeds.
