The Minecraft Mob Vote has been officially retired as of Mojang’s development update blog, released on September 9th, 2024. However, Mojang specified that it was retired to bring something new, so another event is likely still in store. When or what that will be, we do not currently know.

Minecraft Live has not been canceled. In fact, Mojang went on to say they hope to hold the event twice a year rather than once going forward. We do not know the dates as of yet, but we know that Mojang wants Minecraft Live to be a more focused broadcast, exploring upcoming features, snapshots, and news from the Minecraft franchise.

Minecraft’s Development Going Forward

Going forward, Mojang will be moving away from the one big update a-year format to smaller updates such as the one released for Armadillos prior to Minecraft 1.21. That does not mean big updates are going away, either. Merely, that content will be dropped as it is done.

Community Reactions - Developer Update & Minecraft Mob Vote

Top /r/Minecraft Posts - Reddit Logo Overall, the community’s reaction to the news has been positive. Many fans were happy to see the changes to updates, believing it will be healthier for the game. Other commenters, like TheForgoWolf on Reddit, were simply happy to see the Mob Vote gone with all capital cheers. The most concerned voices came from the Java Edition modding community, who worried this would require mods to update many times a year. Yet, other commenters were quick to point out that, at worst, it would lead to the return of community-designated modding versions, such as 1.7.10 and 1.16. In the end, we will just have to wait and see.
