What Does a Recovery Compass Do in Minecraft?
Posted on by
Many items have been added to Minecraft over the years, leaving some overlooked despite being quite useful. So, today, we explore one such example and answer, “What does a recovery compass do in Minecraft?”
Before a recovery compass can be used, one must first gather the materials to craft it, which can unexpectedly be a challenge. The first item required is a standard compass that can be crafted with four iron ingots and one redstone. The second item is echo shards, which generate exclusively within ancient city chests. Eight echo shards are required to craft the recovery compass.
Once all the items are in hand, the recovery compass can be crafted by placing the compass directly in the middle of the crafting table and surrounding it with eight echo shards.
The recovery compass points towards the location of your last death if it was within the current dimension. If the death was not within the current dimension or the player has never died before, the compass will instead spin about randomly. Traveling to the dimension where the death occurred will cause the compass to begin working.
Recovery compasses are items that will only be used following death, so they are better left back at base. Upon dying, take one out from storage and follow the needle to the location where your dropped items reside.
Those who play Minecraft with the game rule keep inventory on may still find the recovery compass useful in scenarios such as returning to the location of an accidental death while exploring. Hardcore players, on the other hand, can safely ignore the recovery compass as it is entirely useless in a mode where one death ends the world.
