Spells in V Rising help vampires survive tough fights, offering extremely powerful effects for defense, damage, utility, crowd control, and mobility. While there are plenty of scenarios these spells will shine in, here we'll rank the top 10 best spells overall in V Rising 1.0 and how they help you progress through the game.

V Rising Best Spells Ranked (Update 1.0)

V Rising 1.0 Best Spells The release of V Rising 1.0 brought some new changes to the vampire-themed survival RPG. For instance, players no longer have to defeat V Blood bosses to unlock spells. Instead, defeating these enemies lets you earn spell points, which you can spend to unlock the spells you want. With that, here are the top 10 best spells in V Rising 1.0 to help you spend those spell points wisely:

10. Shadowbolt

V Rising 1.0 Shadowbolt
  • Description: Launch a projectile that deals 180% magic damage and inflicts Leech.
  • Magic School: Blood
  • Class: Basic Spell
  • Type: Projectile
  • Cooldown: 8 seconds
  • Cast Time: 1 second
Shadowbolt is one of the three default spells in V Rising 1.0, which means it doesn’t have unlock requirements. It's a good basic spell that grants new vampires the ability to inflict Leech on enemies, like other spells in the Blood Magic School. However, you'll access it in the early stages of the game, making it a reliable spell that can help carry you to mid-game, thanks to its health-siphoning properties.

9. Chaos Volley

V Rising 1.0 Chaos Volley
  • Description: Launch 2 Chaos Bolts in a sequence that deals 110% magic damage and inflicts Ignite.
  • Magic School: Chaos
  • Class: Basic Spell
  • Type: Channeling
  • Cooldown: 8 seconds
  • Cast Time: 0.6 seconds
Another great spell to help carry new vampires from early- to mid-game is Chaos Volley. Its base damage is decent, and it deals damage over time (DoT) to hit enemies. However, other spells eventually overshadow Chaos Volley and its damage capabilities.

8. Power Surge

V Rising 1.0 Power Surge
  • Description: Boosts a target ally or self. Increases movement speed by 25%, and physical attacks inflict Ignite for 4 seconds.
  • Magic School: Chaos
  • Class: Basic Spell
  • Type: Beneficial Spell
  • Cooldown: 10 seconds
  • Cast Time: N/A
Vampires who like to get up close and personal with enemies with their melee weapons can take advantage of Power Surge. This spell grants a movement speed boost to yourself or a targeted ally. Additionally, it buffs your physical attacks with Ignite, dealing DoT to hit enemies.

7. Sanguine Coil

V Rising 1.0 Sanguine Coil
  • Description: Launch a projectile that deals 75% magic damage, drains 25% health, and inflicts Leech. Heals hit ally for 100% and self for 25% of your spell power. Hitting an enemy affected by Leech consumes the effect and heals you for 5% of your maximum health.
  • Magic School: Blood
  • Class: Basic Spell
  • Type: Projectile
  • Charges: 3
  • Cast Time: 0.5 seconds
The Gloomrot update reworked the Sanguine Coil and made it better. Before that major patch, activating this spell would launch a projectile that deals the same damage as its current variant. However, it didn’t have the extra effect wherein hitting the Leech-afflicted enemy grants the spellcaster an extra heal. Successfully hitting enemies with the Sanguine Coil can be a great lifesaver during sweaty fights, especially when dealing with endgame bosses.

6. Chaos Barrage

V Rising 1.0 Chaos Barrage
  • Description: Launch 4 Chaos Orbs that deal 75% magic damage on a direct hit, 75% magic damage to enemies in an area, and inflict Ignite.
  • Magic School: Chaos
  • Class: Ultimate Spell
  • Type: Channeling
  • Cooldown: 150 seconds
  • Cast Time: 1 second
Generally, spells in the Chaos Magic School are excellent damage dealers, and Chaos Barrage is no exception to that rule. Apart from its high damage capabilities, this spell also knocks back hit enemies, making it a good choice for crowd control. Remember, Chaos Barrage is an ultimate spell, which typically means its cooldown duration balances the massive damage it brings. So, consider casting this spell sparingly.

5. Frost Barrier

V Rising 1.0 Frost Barrier
  • Description: Upon activation, holds up a barrier in front of you, blocking melee attacks and projectiles. When the barrier is struck, it inflicts 50% magic damage and inflicts Chill. Chilled enemies are Frozen for 4 seconds when hit.
  • Magic School: Frost
  • Class: Basic Spell
  • Type: Barrier
  • Cooldown: 9 seconds
  • Cast Time: N/A
Sometimes, the best offense is a great defense, and the Frost Barrier can answer the call of any vampire needing a good shield. Cast this spell before an enemy attack. Once hit, Frost Barrier traps that foe in an icy prison, preventing that hostile NPC from moving for 4 seconds. Remember, you can do a lot of damage in those few seconds while remaining relatively safe from harm’s way.

4. Ball Lightning

V Rising 1.0 Ball Lightning
  • Description: Launch a Ball Lightning that lingers in place, periodically shocking a nearby enemy and inflicting Static. Deals up to 180% magic damage per target over 3 seconds. Ball Lightning's total damage cannot exceed 450% magic damage. Explodes after the duration, dealing 50% magic damage in the area.
  • Magic School: Storm
  • Class: Basic Spell
  • Type: Projectile
  • Cooldown: 10 seconds
  • Cast Time: 0.4 seconds
Combine Ball Lightning with other abilities and spells that root enemies in place, and you have a recipe that can decimate your opponents’ health bars fast. Albeit it’s not an early-game spell, it can be one of your staple spells in dealing massive damage to late-game enemies.

3. Arctic Leap

V Rising 1.0 Arctic Leap
  • Description: Leap into the air and strike down at the target location, dealing 200% magic damage. A nova of frost erupts from the impact location, Freezing any enemy hit for up to 6 seconds. Enemy vampires are Frozen for 2 seconds.
  • Magic School: Frost
  • Class: Ultimate Spell
  • Type: Leap
  • Cooldown: 150 seconds
  • Cast Time: N/A
One of the best spells in V Rising 1.0 is another ultimate spell called Arctic Leap. Like other ultimate spells, casting Arctic Leap requires you to wait 150 seconds before you can recast it. Nonetheless, it’s a powerful spell that can freeze hostile NPCs for a good amount of time. The range of its frost nova is also reasonably large, making this spell a good option for bosses that summon minions, like Ungora the Spider Queen.

2. Ward of the Damned

V Rising 1.0 Ward of the Damned
  • Description: Block melee and projectile attacks in front of you for 2 seconds. Absorbing an attack summons a skeleton, each consecutive attack absorbed has a 50% chance to summon an additional skeleton up to a maximum of 5. Enemy melee attacks are knocked back. Recast during the effect to launch a wave of energy dealing 25% magical damage and inflicting Condemn.
  • Magic School: Unholy
  • Class: Basic Spell
  • Type: Channeling
  • Cooldown: 10 seconds
  • Cast Time: N/A
Another defensive spell in V Rising 1.0, and one of the best spells in the game, is Ward of the Damned. Although it only lasts on the field for 2 seconds, it’s a great spell to use for enemies with multi-hit attacks. Once hit, the Ward of the Damned summons a skeleton. If it takes multiple hits within those 2 seconds, it has a 50% chance of summoning additional undead minions. Doing so can help you overwhelm opponents or let them concentrate on fodder while you’re healing.

1. Heart Strike

V Rising 1.0 Heart Strike
  • Description: Dash forward and strike enemies in a line. Deals 150% magic damage and heals self for 150% of your spell power over 3.5 seconds. A nova of blood erupts when the effect ends, dealing 150% magic damage and inflicting Leech on the victim and nearby enemies.
  • Magic School: Blood
  • Class: Ultimate Spell
  • Type: Dash
  • Cooldown: 150 seconds
  • Cast Time: 0.7 seconds
One of the best spells in V Rising 1.0, if not the best spell for many vampires, is the Heart Strike. As it’s an ultimate spell, Heart Strike deals massive damage to hit foes. Also, it closes the gap between you and annoying enemies who like to use keep-away tactics. Additionally, it'll inflict Leech on nearby enemies. So, use Heart Strike with another area of effect (AoE) spell, like Ball Lightning, to deal extra damage while siphoning their health. With that, combine Heart Strike with any other powerful spells in V Rising 1.0, and you'll be hard to send back to the shadows.
