Created in 2021, Prominence II RPG: Hasturian Era flew up the charts, quickly joining the ranks of the most downloaded modpacks ever made, and for good reason! This modpack could very well be a standalone RPG game, complete with a story done via quests, enhanced combat, deadly bosses, extensive talent trees, and even forgeable artifacts that can be customized to fit the way you like to play. We truly mean it when we say RPG fans will find few modpacks better than Prominence II RPG: Hasturian Era, especially considering it is updated to this day.

9: Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons

Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons creates a roguelike experience within Minecraft, focusing on exploration, dungeon crawling, and looting goodies from across countless ages. These upgrades include everything from armor to weapons and magical artifacts that make use of an RPG-like magic system. Combining all that with the fact that there are over five dimensions to explore, few will be able to overcome the sheer amount of content this modpack has in store. Additionally, Dreams01 has released an updated version titled Roguelike Adventures and Dungeons II for 1.16.5. You can’t go wrong with giving either a try.

8: Better MC [FABRIC] BMC1

  • Genre: Vanilla+
  • Version: 1.19.2
  • Modpack Link: CurseForge
Sometimes, all players want from a modpack is an extension of the game they already know. Not an overhaul like with RPG or tech modpacks but an experience that stays true to Minecraft at its core. Better MC is arguably one of the best examples of this design philosophy, adding new biomes, mobs, structures, dimensions, and bosses while keeping it within the realm of what Mojang would realistically offer, albeit a few updates down the line. Vanilla+ modpacks such as Better MC also serve as fantastic introductions to the world of modded Minecraft, keeping that first experience from getting a bit too overwhelming.

7: DawnCraft - Echoes of Legends

  • Genre: Souls-like RPG
  • Version: 1.18.2

Of all the titles in the most downloaded Minecraft modpacks of all time, Dawncraft stands as the newest release to breach the top ten that is not apart of a well-known series. And how they achieved that is no small feat. Dawncraft contains hand-crafted one-of-a-kind systems, including responsive souls-like combat and boss fights, a completed quest line, and even a reputation system with various factions. All of that is also in addition to over 200 hand-picked mods that only add to this unique Minecraft experience, including some of the most popular among structure and biome generation and custom mobs. DawnCraft is a labor of love that takes Minecraft to a level few would have ever expected to see it on.

6: All the Mods 8 - ATM8

  • Genre: Kitchen Sink (Mix of Everything)
  • Version: 1.19.2
  • Modpack Link: CurseForge
It can be hard to get a group of friends to agree on a modpack to use, but thankfully, there is All the Mods 8 for 1.19.2! This nifty pack has a little bit of everything so everyone can focus on the portions they love, including magic, technology, and dungeon exploration too. And the best part? By the late game, all these different genres can be combined to create an experience like none other. Another great thing about All the Mods is the team behind it, which goes to great lengths to ensure the wacky mix always functions. Few modpacks have such dedicated developers that put in the effort.

5: Better MC [FORGE] BMC4

  • Genre: Vanilla+
  • Version: 1.20.1
  • Modpack Link: CurseForge
Back again to claim a second spot in the top ten is none other than Better MC, but this time with its fourth release for Forge rather than the original Fabric version in spot eight on this list. The reason for this is Better MC is part of a Modpack series that releases a new take on the idea with each official Minecraft update for both Forge and Fabric. Some mods will remain the same while others are swapped out for new ones, but no matter the changes, an amazing Vanilla+ experience by LunaPixelStudios is always guaranteed. While it may not be in the top ten (yet), their latest release for 1.21.1, Better MC 5, can be found here for Neoforge.

4: All the Mods 9 – ATM9

  • Version: 1.20.1
  • Modpack Link: CurseForge
Speaking of modpack series, All the Mods also returns to claim a second spot in the top ten most downloaded Minecraft modpacks of all time with its ninth release for 1.20.1. Much like Better MC, All the Mods releases a fresh take on the modpack with each Minecraft update and has done so consistently since Minecraft 1.10. As for the differences, the ATMTeam tends to add a bunch of new mods to the wacky mix while keeping as many as they can from previous renditions. The overall theme of a little bit of everything we mentioned in spot 6 of this list remains the same. For those who would like to try the latest All the Mods, ATM10, it can be found here. Many new mods have, once again, been added with a stated focus by the development team being stability to ensure a smooth experience.

3: SkyFactory 4

  • Genre: Technology & Sky Block
  • Version: 1.12.2
  • Modpack Link: CurseForge
Most Minecraft players have heard of Sky Block before. The custom map where a player starts on a small floating island in the void with one tree and a few items. From there, they must use their Minecraft knowledge to progress the game as far as possible under near-impossible circumstances. SkyFactory 4 takes that very same concept but expands it far beyond vanilla means with an abundance of technology-based mods. So, rather than the end game simply being survival in the sky, SkyFactory 4 gives players the chance to conquer them instead and even make it to The End. If you would like a challenge that pushes your modded Minecraft knowledge to its limits, this is it!

2: The Pixelmon Modpack

  • Genre: Survival & Pokémon
  • Version: 1.20.2
  • Modpack Link: CurseForge
Pixelmon combined Minecraft survival with Pokémon to create an open-world Pokémon experience that would go on to become one of the most popular mods ever made. The Pixelmon Modpack uses the spiritual successor of Pixelmon to take that experience even further by adding more mods to the mix, bringing items, biomes, and structures that fit the Pokémon theme. As of writing this article, every generation of Pokémon has been added alongside unique features, such as mega evolutions, found in each region. For many Minecraft and Pokémon fans, this modpack has been called a dream come true, and it could very well end up being that for you too.

1: RLCraft

  • Genre: Survival RPG
  • Version: 1.12.2
  • Modpack Link: CurseForge
Finally, we have RLCraft with over 24 million downloads on CurseForge, making it the most downloaded Minecraft modpack of all time. In this pack, players must survive a brand new level of difficulty that includes managing thirst and temperature alongside hunger while hiding from mobs that can devour you within moments. However, with time and patience, those who play will gradually grow stronger through levels, skills, and loot to take on the monsters in this greatly expanded version of the game. Overall, it creates one of the most rewarding and difficult experiences found in modded Minecraft, with plenty of new biomes, structures, bosses, and dimensions. Are you strong enough to be among the few who have beaten RLCraft’s version of the Ender Dragon?
