The Isle has no shortage of variety for its library of dinosaurs. Players can find heavy hitters to agile fighters in this dino-packed survival title. However, some dinosaurs stand out from the rest in more ways than one. So, keep reading as we give you our dino tier list for The Isle.
Note that choosing the “best” dino in The Isle generally depends on a player’s preferred playstyle. So, let the following tier list serve as your guide and not as a definitive path that disregards preferences.
Affectionately called “Dilo” by various players, the Dilophosaurus is a fairly “small” dinosaur with a height of about 2 meters (6.5 feet). Despite its relatively smaller size, particularly when compared to other options in this Dino Tier List for The Isle, this creature can weave in and out of perilous situations, allowing it to survive various combat scenarios.
Nonetheless, it’s still important to acknowledge some of the Dilo’s limitations. One shortcoming to note is the lack of survivability when hit, as it’s health pool isn’t as significant as other dinosaurs. Also, playing as the Dilophosaurus often requires a cautious and strategic approach, as rushing toward larger predators without a plan can mean certain doom.
Many players often pick the Ceratosaurus in The Isle for a good reason. While it's not as large as other carnivorous dinosaurs in the game, its robust build, decent damage output, and reasonable health pool make it a capable hunter and survivor.
The Ceratosaurus is also often praised for its balanced attributes, making it an accessible choice for beginners and veterans. However, it’s not an apex predator, and it generally struggles against direct confrontations with larger predators, especially with the Tyrannosaurus Rex or Giganotosaurus.
Added in Update #2 or the Evrima Patch 0.6.15.18, the Carnotaurus or the “Carno" is a medium-sized carnivore known for its distinct horns above its eyes. Its slender build allows it to run reasonably fast, allowing for swift attacks and escapes.
This dinosaur’s impressive speed and agility make it a formidable hunter across various terrains. Although it’s not the most powerful dino in The Isle, the Carno excels in stamina speed, allowing it outmaneuver and case down prey effectively.
However, its weakness generally lies in its combat prowess, as its attacks generally harass opponents instead of taking them down. In particular, its bite is weaker than other predators, but makes for excellent ambushes and sustained chases.
The Maiasaura is a dependable herbivore in The Isle. This dinosaur positions itself as a mid-tier option thanks to its fairly decent stats. The balance it provides to players makes this creature adaptable to various situations, whether in combat, exploration, or basic survival.
Players may want to choose the Maiasaura because of its reliability and accessibility. In particular, this creature’s strength often lies in numbers, as a pack of Maiasauras can be deadly against formidable foes.
Although balanced, the Maiasaura doesn’t excel in any single stat category. Also, it can be vulnerable against larger, more powerful predators, especially without allies in a multiplayer setting.
The Allosaurus is a medium-sized carnivorous dinosaur. It joins this tier list of the best dinos in The Isle for various reasons. For instance, it’s a well-rounded fighter with well-balanced stats, particularly its decent health, damage output, speed, and stamina.
Its features allow the Allosaurus to be a threat to smaller and larger adversaries. Its bite, in particular, is a noteworthy attack, dealing reasonably high damage to any creature at the other end of its teeth.
But the Allosaurus lacks versatility outside of combat. For instance, players controlling this dino may find it more difficult to maneuver when fighting against more agile opponents. Also, it can be outclassed in different areas, especially in damage and size, when fighting against larger dinosaurs.
Dubbed the "Devil-horned face," the Diabloceratops is a creature added to The Isle in Patch 0.0.0.43. The Diablo is a formidable herbivore that takes no prisoners alive when provoked. This visually striking creature features a broad frill adorned with impressive and deadly horns.
Although a mid-sized herbivore, the Diabloceratops boasts a reasonable damage output, health pool, and maximum stamina. These features make this creature a durable contender in any map within the game.
As for its drawbacks, the Diabloceratops generally rely on its horns to deal damage against enemies. Although it has a strong bite attack, it's not as reliable as the horns on its head. Also, the Diabloceratops excel in rushing and escaping in a straight line. Turning can be cumbersome as it's not the most agile creature in The Isle.
Commonly known as “Pala” by the community, the Parasaurolophus in The Isle is an herbivore that can hold its ground in a fight. This leaf-eating dinosaur is a staple for players who enjoy a mix of survival and strategic gameplay.
Often perceived as a peaceful giant, enemies who mistake the Pala’s demeanor can be dealt a swift death. This versatile dino is adaptable and resilient thanks to its excellent endurance and evasion.
Although the Pala doesn’t boast the highest damage output in The Isle, it still has a respectable health pool. Coupled with a noteworthy maximum stamina and efficient stamina expenditure, this dino is a tenacious fighter that should also survive surprise attacks from larger predators.
The Suchomimus in The Isle is a fascinating carnivore, as this crocodilian-like creature strikes a good balance between offense and defense. Players can identify this dino from afar, thanks in part to its crocodile-like features, particularly its snout and claws. Additionally, it’s larger than some other carnivores in The Isle.
Many players take advantage of the Suchomimus’ versatility, as it sufficiently fast to chase down prey and hold its own in confrontations. Also, this creature can ambush smaller dinosaurs in various terrains.
However, like all dinos in The Isle, the Suchomimus has its unique shortcomings. For instance, it often has trouble taking on larger enemies, especially the Rex and Giganotosaurus. Its speed, while decent, isn’t also fast enough to catch up to faster theropods.
History and pop culture media denote the Tyrannosaurus Rex as the king of prehistoric giants, and this idea is generally true for its in-game counterpart in The Isle. This colossal carnivore can be easily recognizable from afar because of its massive size, powerful jaws, and intimidating roar.
For its stats, the T-Rex (also called Rex) boasts exceptional health and devastating bite force. This combat powerhouse primarily takes advantage of its sheer dominance on the battlefield. Some players may decide to flee at the sight of Rex instead of taking it head-on.
Despite its imposing nature, even the known king of dinosaurs has its weaknesses. For instance, the T-Rex falls short in some stats when compared to the bigger Giganotosaurus, especially in terms of raw power. Additionally, the Rex’s size reduces its turning speed, making maneuverability difficult in tight situations.
Often nicknamed “Giga” by various players, the Giganotosaurus is arguably the best dino in The Isle. This behemoth is an apex predator with a visually imposing figure. Its massiveness even towers over the Tyrannosaurus Rex. This dino has powerful legs and a strong, serrated jaw with teeth packed to the brim designed for tearing flesh and crushing bone.
In The Isle, the Giga is also known for its incredible damage output and significant health pool. These features allow this massive dinosaur to dominate most enemy encounters. Players who want to always be on top of the food chain should consider the Giganotosaurus as their main choice.
However, playing as this large, carnivorous predator isn't without its challenges. Despite its size, the Giga's significant stamina drain often causes players to rest between exploring and hunting sessions. Also, its immense size, albeit contributing to its power, also translates to a slower turning radius than other smaller dinos in the game.
