Most wings in Terraria need players to craft them. Some wings need players to be lucky when opening treasure bags. You can also have a pair of wings as a beginner, provided you choose the easiest difficulty in the game. Besides the beginner-friendly pair of wings, you can only get wings in Hardmode.
Also, many of the wings have a similar function, which is to give your character extra jump height. But some wings have unique benefits.
