Terraria Wall of Flesh Boss Guide: How to Summon, Loot, Attacks, and Tips & Tricks

Players must defeat the Wall of Flesh in Terraria to unlock Hardmode. But how can you summon this final pre-Hardmode boss? And what will you need to defeat it?

How to Summon the Wall of Flesh in Terraria

To summon the Wall of Flesh, first, kill Voodoo Demons in The Underworld biome to acquire the Guide Voodoo Doll item. Unlike other boss-summoning items, you must throw the Guide Voodoo Doll into the lava while the Guide NPC is alive. If successful, the Wall of Flesh appears, and the boss fight begins. Note: The Wall of Flesh’s appearance pays homage to a Final Fantasy boss called Demon Wall.

Before throwing the Guide Voodoo Doll into the lava in The Underworld, prepare for the fight by building a long horizontal platform. The Wall of Flesh will continuously move in the opposite direction from where you summon it, so just make sure your platform extends long enough in the chosen direction. For example, if you summon it on the right side of the biome, it’ll continuously move to the left. Without the platform, you must navigate through the biome’s abstract design. If you elect to skip this step, it’s going to be a much tougher battle overall. Additionally, you can’t escape this fight by normal means. You can teleport using a Recall Potion or the Magic Mirror, but you’ll immediately die upon using those items...so we recommend not doing that. Wearing the toughest pre-Hardmode armor and using your most powerful weapons are essential for this boss fight. You must kill the Wall of Flesh as fast as possible. Otherwise, you’ll run into eventuality issues, such as running out of room to dodge its attacks. Also don’t forget to buff before the fight and bring plenty of healing potions, as this boss can hit quite hard.

Attacks

The Wall of Flesh immediately inflicts the Horrified debuff on all players within a 1,800-tile radius of its summoning location, preventing escape. Attempting to place your character behind the boss as it summons will inflict The Tongue debuff, which prevents movement and item use while dealing damage over time. Although the Wall of Flesh has few attacks to know about, its difficulty lies in its ferocity and the number of its assaults. Its staple attacks are:

• Mouths called The Hungry will attempt to “eat” the player
• The Wall of Flesh’s eyes fire lasers in the player’s direction
• The boss throws up leeches that chase the player

Also, the Wall of Flesh’s movement speed increases as its health diminishes. But thankfully, it doesn’t have multiple phases, unlike most of the game’s bosses, so you won't have to worry about any surprises there. Note: When fighting the Wall of Flesh boss in Terraria, the current world’s difficulty enters Hardmode and is irreversible after defeating the Wall of Flesh. Be prepared for this before you perform the summoning ritual.
