Some enemies in Terraria can be tough to hit when moving everywhere. Thankfully, weapons like the Rainbow Rod exist, allowing for accurate and controllable movement while still firing a powerful magic weapon. So, keep reading to learn how to get the Rainbow Rod in Terraria and more!

How to Get the Rainbow Rod in Terraria

Terraria Rainbow Rod Introduced in Version 1.1, players can craft the Rainbow Rod in Terraria by using the following materials near a Mythril or Orichalcum Anvil:
  • 10x Crystal Shard
  • 2x Unicorn Horn
  • 10x Pixie Dust
  • 8x Soul of Light
  • 15x Soul of Sight
Note that these ingredients can only be acquired and farmed in Hardmode. For starters, players can farm Crystal Shards by destroying their nodes in the Underground Hallow. As for the Unicorn Horn, farm it by defeating Unicorns in The Hallow. It’s also possible to farm Pixie Dusts in The Hallow, as this item drops from Pixies found in this biome. However, be careful not to kill a Prismatic Lacewing by accident. Otherwise, the difficult Hardmode boss, Empress of Light, will appear to retaliate. Additionally, farm Souls of Light in The Hallow by defeating most enemies in this biome. Finally, beat the Hardmode boss, The Twins, to farm Souls of Sight.

Rainbow Rod Uses & Effects

Terraria Rainbow Rod Use Each use of the Rainbow Rod in Terraria fires a controllable beam or magic missile. Moving the cursor controls the projectile, allowing players to target and hit enemies, especially those in hard-to-reach areas. Note that the projectile won’t disappear when a player drags it across surfaces, including blocks. Apart from its unique effect, players can also take advantage of the Rainbow Rod’s stats:
  • Damage: 50
  • Knockback: 6
  • Mana Used: 21
  • Critical Hit Chance: 4%
  • Rarity: Pink
The Rainbow Rod's beam also serves another practical use: to light areas remotely. Players can drag the bright projectile in dark locations while exploring Terraria's underground and cavern layers.
