Unlike enemies like Duke Fishron, Mothron doesn't quite make the cut as a "boss" in Terraria, but it might as well be thanks to its threat level and loot table. With that, here's how to summon and defeat Mothron, a terrifying post-hardmode enemy in Terraria.
How To Summon Mothron In Terraria
Mothron, among many other enemies, is part of the Solar Eclipse event or invasion. This instance rarely occurs after at least one mechanical boss (Skeletron Prime, The Twins, or The Destroyer) has been defeated. Players can trigger the Solar Eclipse event without relying as much on RNG by using the Solar Tablet. Do note that you can only obtain this item after defeating Plantera, however. To craft a Solar Tablet, you must combine 8x Solar Tablet Fragments near a Mythril or Orichalcum Anvil. You can find this item inside Lihzahrd Chests, or when defeating Lihzahrds and Flying Snakes in the Jungle Temple. How To Beat Mothron (All Attacks and Tips & Tricks)
Since Mothron isn’t a boss, it typically doesn’t have an intricate behavior or attack pattern. Nonetheless, its standard actions and base stats still make it a threat to many Terraria players. Additionally, since the Solar Eclipse is a random event, it’s wise to prepare an arena beforehand. If the words, “A solar eclipse is happening!” appears on the bottom left corner of the screen, it only takes a few moments before the enemies start appearing. The arena you choose for this fight should be long and flat, so you won’t bump into walls and other surfaces while evading Mothron’s attacks. That also means that a good pair of wings can provide extra evasive support. You should also make sure to wear your current best armor and weapon set, as this fight isn't one to underestimate. As for the armor, some ideal choices include the Chlorophyte Armor for additional DPS and the Beetle Armor set for extra defense. You may also want to bring the Druid and the Nurse to your arena. These NPCs can provide a defensive buff and even provide valuable heals for your character. Ranged and magic weapons can also be good for this fight to avoid contact damage from Mothron. But if you want to use a melee weapon, the Death Sickle is a very effective option.Attacks
Mothron will typically chase after the player throughout the combat area. Oftentimes, it’ll horizontally align itself before lunging at the player’s position. If hit, the player will receive heavy contact damage. If Mothron isn’t charging at the player, it’ll stop and land on a block. During this time, this enemy will lay several Mothron Eggs. Waiting for the eggs to hatch will summon Baby Mothron enemies that chase and attack the player.Mothron Loot Table
