Hermes Boots in Terraria is an accessory that allows the player to move faster on land than usual. But how can you get it, what is its max speed, and is it possible to upgrade it to something better? Keep reading as we answer these concerns for you.
How To Get The Hermes Boots In Terraria

Players must open chests in the
Cavern and
Underground layers for a chance to get the Hermes Boots in Terraria. Apart from regular chests, this
accessory may also spawn inside
Gold, Marble, Granite, and
Rich Mahogany Chests.
Hermes Boots Max Speed

Achieving maximum speed while wearing Hermes Boots requires running briefly on a flat plane. Additionally, these boots double the player's normal walking/running speed. In particular, it increases the regular movement speed from
15 mph to 30 mph.
It’s also important to mention that achieving the maximum speed with the Hermes Boots is still achievable even when the player has the Slow debuff. It’s because this debuff only affects the character’s base acceleration and not the attainable maximum speed.
Hermes Boots Upgrade Crafting Recipe

To get even stronger, you can combine
Hermes Boots with
Rocket Boots at the
Tinkerer’s Workshop to craft
Spectre Boots. Introduced in
version 1.1, the Spectre Boots combines the functionality of its ingredients, allowing the player to run fast and fly for a little under
2 seconds.
Aside from Hermes Boots, players can also use Flurry Boots, Sailfish Boots, and Dunerider Boots with Rocket Boots to craft the Spectre Boots. Despite their dissimilar appearances, these alternatives have the same functionality as the Hermes Boots variant.
Players can then choose to upgrade Spectre Boots further into Fairy Boots, Hellfire Treads, or Lightning Boots. All these upgrades are craftable at the Tinkerer’s Workshop and require varying ingredients (apart from just Spectre Boots) to craft.
