How to Get the Drax in Terraria

Every new player in Terraria starts with the Copper Axe. Eventually, you’ll want a more powerful tool that can help you mine faster than usual, and the Drax can be that all-important upgrade. But how can you get this unique-looking mining tool, and what exactly does it offer? Below we cover everything you need to know about the Drax in Terraria - including how to get it, its stats, and even some other mining alternatives.

What is the Drax in Terraria?

Introduced in version 1.1 as Hamdrax, the Drax is a Hardmode tool and weapon that combines the words and usage of a drill and an axe. If used as a weapon, this piece of equipment offers the following stats:

• 35 melee damage
• 4.75 knockback
• 4% critical hit chance
• 15 use time (Very fast attack speed)

If you have the materials to craft multiple units of this item, aim for it to have the Godly or Demonic modifier. These modifiers provide the following bonuses:

• Godly: +15% damage, +5% critical hit chance, +15% knockback, +2 tier, and +111.63% item value
• Demonic: +15% damage, +5% critical hit chance, +2 tier, and +60.02% item value

If used as a mining tool, players can take advantage of this item’s 200% Pickaxe Power. That means you can use the Drax to mine almost any brick in the game, except for Lihzahrd Bricks.

How to Craft the Drax (Recipe and Materials)

Players must be near a Mythril or Orichalcum Anvil to craft the Drax. Also, you must have the following items:

• 18x Hallowed Bar
• 1x Soul of Fright
• 1x Soul of Might
• 1x Soul of Sight

You can farm Hallowed Bars by defeating the mechanical bosses (The Destroyer, The Twins, and Skeletron Prime). These bosses also drop all of the soul-type items needed to make a Drax. Note: Crafting a Drax for the first time gives the achievement “Drax Attack.”

Mining Alternatives to the Drax

Terraria has plenty of pickaxes to help with gathering materials. If you’re not a fan of the Drax, here are some other options that you may try crafting and using.

Pickaxe Axe

Another Hardmode axe, the Pickaxe Axe shares the same Pickaxe Power as the Drax. However, this option has a slower mining speed and a longer range than the Drax. The Pickaxe Axe also requires more Hallowed Bars than the Drax.

Shroomite Digging Claw

Arguably the fastest mining tool in the game, the Shroomite Digging Claw also has the same Pickaxe Power as the Drax. But it deals 15 pickaxe hits per second, making short work of digging excursions. Adding the Legendary modifier to this tool can increase its mining speed to 20 pickaxe hits per second.

Picksaw

Defeating the Golem boss has a chance to drop the Picksaw. This tool can mine all blocks, including the Lihzahrd variants. However, its mining speed is slightly slower than the Drax in Terraria.
