Playing with online friends in Terraria can be a blast, and you can never have enough help to take on some of the game's most difficult bosses. But does Terraria have crossplay between its many platforms? Here, we'll cover the current state of cross-platform Terraria play, its future, and some useful tricks along the way.Terraria Crossplay & All Platforms
Terraria features some degree of crossplay, though there are certain restrictions involved. In particular, players can only play with each other across similar systems, with the groups split between iOS and Android users, Xbox Series X and Xbox One users, and PS4 and PS5 users. Terraria doesn't allow cross-platform play across these different groups. For instance, mobile Terraria players can’t meet and play with PlayStation and Xbox users. PlayStation and Xbox Terraria users can’t connect with other players in-game using other gaming systems. Those playing Terraria on Nintendo Switch are further out of luck, as they are unable to play with mobile, PlayStation, or Xbox users. There is, however, a technical workaround to crossplay in Terraria, though it's a complex one, so buckle up.Terraria Crossplay Workaround for Mobile and Console Players
Reddit user WolfiePlays found a workaround for the mobile version of Terraria to crossplay with PlayStation and Xbox users. The process requires the mobile version to be the host. Then, the phone should connect to the PC version through the PC’s IP address. Connecting from the mobile version of Terraria to an Xbox is trickier than connecting to a PlayStation. For this particular procedure to work, you must create a server from the phone. Then, go to the multiplayer option on the Xbox version of Terraria. Turn the Xbox off afterward and wait for about a minute. Next, turn on the Xbox again. If successful, the server on the mobile Terraria should appear on the list. Another method is to install Tshock, a crossplay plugin for Terraria. With it, PC and mobile players can play without going through a complicated procedure every time they want to play in an online multiplayer setting. The Future of Crossplay in Terraria
On the October 2023 version of the Terraria State of the Game address, developer Re-Logic hinted that full, uninhibited crossplay is eventually coming to the game. The post states, “Terrarians everywhere can come together from all over the world to Dig, Fight, and Build – regardless of which platform on which they choose to play.” The developers didn’t guarantee that the full crossplay feature would arrive in 1.4.5, so it may be a good while before we see its implementation. Until then, users will be divided into subcommunities outside of the workaround above.Get Started with a
