Stardew Valley Green Rain Event Guide: Stages, Possible Days, & more

Posted on by justin
Stardew Valley's 1.6 update introduced the enchanting Green Rain event, occurring once each summer. This magical phenomenon blankets the valley in a translucent green shower, revitalizing the landscape and blooming flora. Farmers can seize this opportunity to collect rare resources and enjoy a uniquely vibrant and captivating day in the game.

How to Trigger the Green Rain Event in Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley Green Rain Unfortunately, you cannot influence the occurrence of green rain in Stardew Valley. As mentioned earlier, this weather event only happens in summer during one of the following days: 5, 6, 7, 14, 15, 16, 18, and 23. To stay prepared, check the daily weather report on your TV at home to anticipate green rain events. When green rain is imminent, the report will state, “Um… There appears to be some kind of… anomalous reading… I… don’t know what this means,” indicating the event will be happening at the soonest available date. You'll know when it's raining green water outside when you wake up, and the following on-screen message will appear: “A green rain has descended upon the valley.”

What to do During the Green Rain Event?

Stardew Valley Green Rain What to do Players should take advantage of this prosperous day and the blessings it brings. For starters, the green rain in Stardew Valley grows each tree sapling where the rainfall occurs, which is at every place in the valley except the Beach and Calico Desert. In particular, Stage 1 tree saplings grow to Stage 2, but they have a 50% chance of growing to Stage 4. On the other hand, existing Stage 2 and Stage 3 tree saplings will grow to Stage 4 during this weather event. Use this opportunity to acquire resources, such as Sap and Maple Syrup, from the trees sooner rather than later. Additionally, Green Rain Trees and weeds spawn en masse throughout the valley. Green Rain Trees have three types. The Type 1 Green Rain Tree may drop a Mossy Seed when shaken and can produce Moss, Wood, Sap, and Mossy Seeds (by chance) when chopped. As for the Type 2 Green Rain Tree, Moss may appear on it and players might get a Mossy Seed when shaking it. When chopped, it can produce the same drops as the Type 1 Green Rain Tree. Type 3 Green Rain Trees, which resemble elongated vines, don’t grow Moss. Nonetheless, it’s still possible to acquire Mossy Seeds when shaking them. Chopping the Type 3 variant can drop Fiddlehead Ferns and Mossy Seeds. Note: Existing fully-grown Oak and Maple Trees may temporarily transform into Green Rain Trees during this event.

What to do with Moss?

Stardew Valley Moss Moss is a new weed in Stardew Valley introduced in Update 1.6. It grows in abundance during the green rain event and has some uses. For instance, players can use Moss in various crafting recipes, such as the following:
  • Speed-Gro: 1x Pine Tar and 5x Moss
  • Mushroom Log: 10x Hardwood and 10x Moss
  • Statue of Blessings: 999x Stone, 999x Fiber, 999x Sap, and 999x Moss
  • Deluxe Worm Bin: 1x Worm Bin and 30x Moss
  • Deluxe Bait: 5x Bait and 2x Moss
  • Challenge Bait: 5x Bone Fragment and 2x Moss
  • Treasure Totem: 5x Hardwood, 1x Mystic Syrup, and 10x Moss
  • Blue Grass Starter: 25x Fiber, 10x Moss, and 1x Mystic Syrup
Note: Craft these items at least once to achieve perfection. Additionally, you can cook 20x Moss to produce Moss Soup. Consuming it restores 31 Health and 70 Energy. Alternatively, use Moss as a green dye in the spool of the Sewing Machine or at Emily and Haley’s House. Players can also trade 5x Moss with the Raccoon’s Wife for a bag of Broccoli Seeds at the Giant Stump. Also, be careful not to give Moss to Stardew Valley NPCs. Most villagers dislike this item, including Sebastian, Harvey, and Abigail. Note: The images used in this guide come from the gameplay videos of NashCrafter.
