It's important to weigh several factors when considering the best base locations in Satisfactory 1.0. These elements, such as resource availability and spatial convenience, can significantly impact your gameplay experience from the early stages all the way to the end game. So, let’s dive into some strategic options for establishing your factory in this expansive and resource-rich world.
Best Base Locations in Satisfactory Update 1.0
Considering the best base locations in Satisfactory generally falls under personal preference. Nonetheless, some regions typically provide more advantages than other locations. Some of these ideal base locations include the following:Central Grass Fields
The central region of the Grass Fields is a great location to start a base for beginners and veterans alike. This location is ideal for various reasons. For instance, this particular location in this biome has a vast, flat space, reducing the need for terraforming. Additionally, resources are abundant in this area. Some materials that are in abundance in this region include Biomass, Normal Iron, Normal Copper, Normal Limestone, and Pure Limestone. Slightly far to the north, east, and west are many Normal Coal nodes. Walk even farther than the Normal Coal nodes to reach fairly rare resources, particularly Pure Caterium and Pure Quartz. Albeit one of the best base locations in Satisfactory, this location in the Grass Fields biome lacks sufficient water sources. So, you might run into some issues when powering your factory, especially when you're using Coal Generators and Nuclear Power Plants.West Dangle Spires
Travel west from the previous location to reach the shore of the Dangle Spires biome. While the Central Grass Fields lacks water, this shoreline provides you with all the water you’ll ever need for your factory. Additionally, various Pure nodes are nearby, including Iron, Copper, and Limestone. Pure Quartz and Caterium Nodes are also near this location. Gathering Biomass is also not a dire issue for this location, for various gathering spots are close by. Normal and Pure Coal nodes are also scattered around the vicinity. There’s also a Crude Oil node in the area, making this region ideal for progressing from early- to mid-game. However, the land isn’t as flat as the previously mentioned location. So, you might have to level the land for proper building and structure placement.Northwest Rocky Desert
Like the other Satisfactory base locations mentioned, this region in the Rocky Desert biome has multiple essential resources. In particular, Pioneers shouldn't have difficulty farming Iron, Copper, Limestone, Caterium, Sulfur, and Quartz. Also, thanks to Patch 1.0, some Coal nodes were added to this location. On the downside, this location has fewer Biomass gathering spots than other possible base locations. Nonetheless, the terrain is reasonably flat, reducing the need for terraforming.Northwest Northern Forest
The northwest region of the Northern Forest, which is fairly close to the Rocky Desert biome, is also one of the best base locations in Satisfactory. Here, Pioneers have access to multiple resource-gathering nodes, including (but not limited to) Pure Iron, Pure Limestone, and Pure Copper. One shortcoming with the release of Update 1.0 is that the Coal nodes that were used to be close to this area have been moved. Now, Pioneers must travel slightly west or southwest to farm Coal for this factories. The patch also moved the Caterium and Sulfur nodes as these gathering spots are now farther away than before. Thankfully, multiple Crude Oil nodes are to the northeast of this location. Farming these resources should help compensate for the lack of other resources, especially for the long term.Central Northern Forest
In the middle of the Northern Forest biome lies a flat space with many resource nodes nearby. Here, you can take advantage of many Pure Iron nodes, a Pure Copper node, and multiple Pure and Normal Limestone nodes. Next, Pure Coal nodes can be found to the east and west of this location. A Normal Coal node can also be found slightly south of this area. Finally, many Caterium nodes are nearby, including an additional one added with Update 1.0. Various Impure Sulfur nodes are also within the area. The icing on the cake for this location is multiple Biomass nodes.West Dune Desert
If you're looking for a location for a base with immediate water access and a flat space, consider this area at the Dune Desert biome. Apart from having little to no problem accessing water, this place also has various resource-gathering nodes, albeit most of them are of Normal purity. Here, Pioneers can gather resources like Limestone, Iron, and Copper. Thankfully, two Pure Caterium and Pure Sulfur nodes are nearby. Don’t forget to walk slightly to the northeast of this region to find two Normal Coal nodes to help power your Coal Generators. Additionally, Update 1.0 added one Impure Uranium node in this location.Best Factory Layouts
Like searching for the best base locations in Satisfactory, the best factory layouts are generally subjective. The ideal setup you'll need depends on your requirements. Nonetheless, here are some excellent factory layouts made by certain members of the community:Modular Engine Factory
User TotalXclipse of satisfactorytips.com posted an efficient factory layout for producing five Modular Engines per minute. The setup requires 120x Iron Ore, 30x Rotor, 20x Stator, and 112.5x Crude Oil. It also needs various buildings, including Manufacturers, Refineries, Assemblers, and Constructors. Note that this layout requires a 13x18 space and a maximum power of 668Mw. Assuming all components are in good working condition, you should have a fully functioning Modular Engine plant.Nuclear Power Factory
Another setup posted by user TotalXclipse of satisfactorytips.com is a super-efficient Nuclear Power plant. Note that it’s safe to say that dealing with Nuclear Waste is a problem for many Pioneers. However, this factory solves that issue, as it produces zero Nuclear Waste. Still, this particular Nuclear Power plant is generally not for beginners or intermediate players. You must be fairly far into the game to produce its required buildings and resources.Rifle Ammo Factory
Defending your bases from hostile creatures can be challenging without sufficient ammunition for your firearms. Thankfully, Reddit user oldshavingfoam has a factory layout that efficiently produces Rifle Ammo. The layout is fairly flexible since you can switch some blocks to produce specific Rifle Ammo. In particular, you can use this factory layout to produce Standard Rifle Ammo, Homing Rifle Ammo, and Turbo Rifle Ammo.Get Started with a
