How to Board Up and Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid Barricade Windows Zombie apocalypse survivors can barricade windows using wooden planks, metal bars, or metal sheets. Each item requires specific ingredients to construct, which are the following:
  • Wooden barricade: 1x Plank, 2x Nails, and 1x Hammer (or another Hammer variant)
  • Metal bars: 3x Metal Bar, 1x Welder Mask, and 1x Propane Torch
  • Metal sheet: 1x Metal Sheet, 1x Welder Mask, and 1x Propane Torch
Note: Build 36 introduced metal barricades as the newest effective base defense. It’s important to mention that the barricade’s health depends on the material used and the builder’s skill level. Additionally, metal barricades typically last longer than their wooden counterparts. With a barricade in your inventory, walk to a window and right-click on the opening. Next, select the “Barricade” option from the context menu. Wait for the animation to complete to block the window from zombies successfully. Note: Removing a wooden barricade from windows in Project Zomboid requires a hammer or a crowbar. Dismantling the metal sheet or metal bars requires a propane torch.

What Does Barricading Windows Do?

Project Zomboid Barricaded Windows At its core, barricading windows in Project Zomboid enhances these openings' durability. A zombie attacking a barricaded window will damage the blockage first before harming the window. So, the barricade acts as a second layer of protection against the undead trying to infiltrate your home or base. Players can also peek through windows barricaded with wooden planks. However, this act becomes impossible if you use three or more planks. If you want to check your surroundings without eliminating visibility, use one or two planks to barricade a window. Next, place a curtain over the barricade. Open the window treatment when you want to peek outside.
