A new Pokémon mod has entered the arena, but how does it compare to the long-established versions that we already have? Today we answer that question and explore the subject of Pixelmon Vs Cobblemon. Which will come out on top in the end?
What Is the Pixelmon Mod?
The Pixelmon Mod was the original Pixelmon but has long since ceased development. However, it was by no means willingly! The use of Pokémon within The Pixelmon Mod gave The Pokémon Company legal standing to shut the project down, and they did so with the full might of their legal team. This version of the mod is now out of date and no longer recommended for use. Those seeking to play Pixelmon would instead do so through Pixelmon Reforge or Pixelmon Generations. Our guide comparing the two can be found here. What is Cobblemon?
Cobblemon is a new Pokémon mod taking the modding community by storm! This open-source project aims to provide a mod that integrates better with other mods and modpacks while also attempting to emulate a playstyle more consistent with Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Both of which they are doing with great success. Cobblemon offers the first generation of Pokémon alongside their evolutions and a select few from later generations, but the rest are in the works. Players can physically run from battles, perform other tasks during battles, and the devs are attempting to make the Pokémon feel much more alive with in-depth animations.Pixelmon Vs Cobblemon
Comparing Pixelmon to Cobblemon is similar to comparing Pokémon Legends: Arceus to the main series Pokémon games. Those seeking to have every pokemon in-game and the classic battle system would likely prefer Pixelmon Reforged or Pixelmon Generations. However, those seeking a system similar to Pokémon Legends: Arceus with a high level of polish would likely prefer Cobblemon. Overall, it comes down to a preference of systems and whether the current lack of Pokémon in Cobblemon is a deal breaker or not.Pixelmon Vs Cobblemon: Author’s Personal Opinion
Having had the opportunity to play both, it quickly became clear that Cobblemon fits Minecraft better. The Arceus playstyle, which functions astoundingly well, added to the Minecraft experience rather than replacing it. Their goal of having it pair with other mods likely the reason, and it was done masterfully. In addition, the Pokémon present in Cobblemon all look like genuine Minecraft mobs. Their polish and animations never ceasing to amaze for every Pokémon I found. Cobblemon was simply a fantastic Pokémon and Minecraft experience that I would recommend ten times out of ten. But remember, there is no rule against trying out both! Pixelmon is still a fantastic option that I, alongside thousands of others, have had countless hours of fun in.
