Palworld NPCs Guide: Every Useful NPC and Vendor

Posted on by cade-davie
Palworld is filled with powerful, magical creatures known as Pals, but it's also got a bunch of humans in it! Most human characters are either enemies or simple NPCs, but there are a select few who have plenty to offer you. Specifically, the game's collection of merchants. If you'd like to know what these NPCs offer and where they can be found, we've got all the information for you right here!

All Useful Palworld NPCs

Most NPCs in Palworld don't have much to offer you beyond a handful of random dialogue. Merchants, on the other hand, are extremely useful thanks to their varied inventories. There are five different merchant types in Palworld, and most of them can be found at random. They'll wander the entire map or crop up in different camps and cities, so keep your eyes peeled. If you're looking for an earlier game location that has one of each merchant available, head to Duneshelter. At coordinates near 351, 353, this city is set in the sweltering desert to the northeast, but it's not too difficult to reach. In the city square, you can find one of each wandering merchant type permanently set up. Of course, finding merchants in different spots offeres a greater chance of different stock, but we'll cover that below as we detail all of the merchant NPCs in Palworld.

Red Coat Merchant

Pictured above, these are the most common merchants in Palworld. They'll offer the most basic supplies, such as food, equipment, Pal Spheres, and more. Their stock may vary from merchant to merchant, but not to an extreme degree. Most Red Coat Merchants have very similar stock until you get to much higher-level areas.

Green Coat Merchant

As their name suggests, Green Coat Merchants look exactly like their Red Coat counterparts but green. They'll sell a bit more advanced materials than Red Coats, such as armor, clothing, ammunition, weapons, and even blueprints. Their stock will also vary between one another to a slightly greater degree than Red Coat merchants.

Blue Coat Merchants or Pal Merchants

Palworld Merchants NPCs Again, these NPCs look identical to the last two apart from a color swap to green. However, in game, they're referred to as Pal Merchants. These are one of the most useful merchants in the game as they'll buy and sell Pals. The Pals they sell have the potential for greater stats than your average Pals found in the wilderness. Additionally, Pal Merchants have rotating stock that changes with the passing of each in-game day. Or, after they've died and respawned.

Black Marketeer

Palworld NPC Black Marketer These intimidating fellows are much rarer than the previously mentioned merchants, but one spawns with regular frequency just outside of Duneshelter. Head around the outside of Duneshelter to the right, and near the town's back, you'll see a large, flat rock. If the Black Marketeer hasn't spawned yet, let an in-game day pass by and try again. Unfortunately some days he's there, some days he's not. Black Marketeers are similar to Blue Pal Merchants since they buy and sell Pals with a rotating selection. However, Black Marketeers often have much more valuable Pals, and they'll even buy humans from you. However, don't expect to be able to buy any humans back.

Medal Merchant

Palworld NPCs Merchant Finally, the last type of merchant NPC in Palworld is the Medal Merchant. Like the Black Marketeer, this one is a bit rare but regularly spawns in specific locations. Medal Merchants favor areas with ruins, and the Desolate Church at coordinates 66, -414 is one such spot that's easy to reach. Medal Merchants have a unique selection of premiere stock such as hats, helmets, elixirs, and more, but they'll only trade in Dog Coins. These coins are a bit rare, but there are multiple ways to find them:
  • Scrap: If you come across a scrap pile, make sure you harvest it for a chance at Dog Coins.
  • Humans: Human enemies such as Syndicate Thugs have a chance to drop Dog Coins when they're defeated.
  • Mimogs: This Pal looks like a small treasure chest and will try to run away if its discovered. Knock it out or capture it for a chance at some Dog Coins.
  • Treasure Chests: If you come upon a real treasure chest while exploring Palworld, there's a chance you'll find some Dog Coins inside.

Dr. Brawn

Palworld NPC Dr Brawn While he's not a merchant, Dr. Brawn is the latest addition to the list of useful NPCs in Palworld, added in the Feybreak content update. This NPC can be very tricky to find with their random spawning locations throughout the islands. Luckily, you can narrow your search down to the locations listed above (credit to The Pal Professor) to see if Dr. Brawn has decided to spawn. If you have a fast mount, you'll be able to zip through these areas and find Dr. Brawn in no time. You'll want to find Dr. Brawn if you're hoping to potentially give your Pals a passive rework. You'll simply need to talk to Dr. Brawn and have him perform a "sketchy surgery" on your preferred Pal. Of course, there's only a chance the surgery will produce a better passive. In fact, the surgery could negatively affect your Pal and greatly reduce their values. Whether or not you want to take that risk is up to you. Dr. Brawn can only perform the surgery once a day, but if you have him in your base, it will be much easier for you to regularly perform the surgery.

Placing NPCs in Your Base

If you don't want to head out on a shopping trip each time you hope to check a merchant's wares, you can always bring the merchants to you! Capturing merchants or Dr. Brawn will allow you to set them up in your base where you can visit them much easier. Pal Merchants, Black Marketeers, and Dr. Brawn are definitely the most useful ones to catch, thanks to their rotating stock. However, Green and Red Coat merchants can resupply their stock in case you'd like an endless flow of supplies to be readily available at home. To capture a human NPC, you'll need to whittle their health down. Unfortunately for you, humans don't like being attacked. If you strike them with your character, you'll receive a wanted status that makes it harder to deal with NPCs in the future. Thankfully, whittling down a human NPCs health with Pal attacks doesn't trigger the wanted status. Though, it can be much trickier to avoid killing the NPC this way. If you do kill an NPC, don't worry. They'll respawn after a set amount of time. You'll also want to make sure you have some higher-level Pal Spheres for catching humans. Dr. Brawn, for example, is particularly hard to catch even with Ultimate Spheres. However, having a Dr. Brawn in your base is much more convenient than hunting him down all the time.
