Minecraft lives and breathes through the biomes that make up the world. While there are tons of amazing scenery these biomes can create, including interesting combinations with different biomes bordering one anothers, new biomes are on their way that will shake up Minecraft.
These biomes will arrive in the highly anticipated Minecraft Caves & Cliffs update.
Let’s dive into what these new biomes have to offer.
Caves & Cliffs
Caves & Cliffs will bring tons of new content to Minecraft in 2021.
This includes new mobs, new zone generation, and obviously, new biomes.
You can test some of these changes in the Minecraft 1.17 Beta!
Caves & Cliffs Biomes
While the Minecraft Caves & Cliffs biomes aren’t available just yet in the Minecraft 1.17 Beta, they’re one of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming update.

Let’s break each down with what we know so far.
Deep Dark
The upcoming Deep Dark biome in Minecraft Caves & Cliffs will be a dangerous place for players to be.
It will exist in the depths of the Minecraft map, though exact location details are unknown. The zone will feature Sculk blocks and Sculk Sensor blocks that will respond to movement for the blind Warden mob.
DON’T MISS IT: Minecraft Patch 1.16.4 Changes
Yes that’s right, the Deep Dark biome will house Wardens, which are the most dangerous new mob coming to Minecraft in the Caves & Cliffs Update.
Dripstone Caves
The Dripstone Cave biome is one of the more scenic the new biomes coming to Minecraft in the Caves & Cliffs Update.
These caves will be packed with beautiful scenes of stalactites and stalagmites, bringing a bit of geographic life to the undergrounds of Minecraft.
Lush Caves
While Dripstone Caves will look amazing, Lush Caves will likely be the most visually stunning new biomes in Minecraft Caves & Cliffs. Lush Caves will be the first underground biome with live plant life, an aquatic species, and will be covered in life as a result.
Lush Caves will be a hugely welcome sight for players digging underground, and give a nice place for players to hope to find instead of more dangerous biomes like the Deep Dark.
Mesh Caves
Mesh Caves are the least public of the new biomes coming in the Minecraft Caves & Cliffs Update.
From the little we’ve seen of this upcoming biome, it includes long slender cave channels that branch out into complicated paths.

There are several theories on what these paths could be, as we have no info on what’s inside them. The most plausible theory suggests a catacomb-style structure that will punish players for losing their way in the deep tunnels.
