Minecraft 1.20 Snapshot 23W17A – Hear the New Music Today!

As players explore in search of cherry blossoms and more, keep an ear out for new ambient music being performed! Today we explore the very exciting snapshot 23W17A and all the new music it will allow us to play.

Details and Adjustments

Alongside all the features found in previous Minecraft 1.20 snapshots, snapshot 23W17A includes further adjustments to sculk sensors, a music disc, new ambient music, and a bundle of advancements for players to obtain. More details on each in our highlights below!
Sculk Sensors
  • Active Phase Lasts 30 Ticks (10 for Calibrated Sculk Sensors)
  • Cooldown Phase Lasts 10 Ticks
Sculk Sensors now have three distinct phases. Inactive refers to when they are waiting for a vibration, active refers to when they sense a vibration and begin emitting a redstone signal, and cooldown is a mandatory inactive period before the cycle can begin anew.
New Ambient Music
  • A Familiar Room
  • Bromeliad
  • Crescent Dunes
  • Echo in the Wind
Four new tracks can be found in specific biomes throughout the game. Check out Cherry Groves, Desert, Jungle, Badlands, and Flower Forest biomes to hear them!
New Items
  • Relic by Aaron Cherof
Trail ruins have a new item in their loot pool! The Relic music disc offers a very catchy song taking the community by storm. If there wasn’t already enough incentive, here is a great reason to get out there and explore!
New Advancements
  • Smells interesting: Obtain a Sniffer Egg
  • Little sniffs: Feed a Snifflet (requires Smells interesting)
  • Planting the past: Plant any Sniffer seed (requires Little sniffs)
  • Respecting the remnants: Brush a Suspicious block to obtain a Pottery Sherd
  • Careful restoration: Make a Decorated Pot out of 4 Pottery Sherds (requires Respecting the remnants)
  • Crafting a new look: Craft a trimmed armor at a Smithing Table
  • Smithing with style: Apply these smithing templates at least once: Spire, Snout, Rib, Ward, Silence, Vex, Tide, Wayfinder (requires Crafting a new look)

How to Install Minecraft 1.20 Snapshot 23W17A

Minecraft Snapshot Installation In Java Edition, installing Minecraft 1.20 Snapshot 23W17A is done right from the Minecraft client. Players need only open up the Minecraft Launcher and enable snapshots in the ‘Installations’ tab. From there, click “New Installation,” select “Latest Snapshot” in the drop-down menu, and click create. Your new Minecraft 1.20 snapshot installation will now be a selectable option before clicking play. However, Minecraft 1.20 snapshots have a few extra steps. Once in the game, click “Create New World,” then select “Datapacks,” and enable the built-in “bundle” and “update_1_20” datapacks before clicking “Create New World” again. Finally, with the new world made, all that’s left is to select it and click play! Please note snapshots and pre-releases can corrupt worlds! Ensure backups have been taken.
