Food is an important supply in Valheim, as it improves your maximum health and stamina. This applies for each unique food eaten for a limited time, which offer different values depending on the food type.
Because you can’t eat 3 stacks of the same food at a time, you’ll have to have food diversity in Valheim. That’s where farming is the perfect solution.
How to Farm in Valheim
You may be used to being able to farm right off the bat in multiplayer survival games like Valheim.
For this game, however, that won’t be the case.
The Cultivator
To farm in Valheim, you’ll have to summon and defeat the game’s first boss - Eikthyr.
Once this is completed, you’ll be able to build the Cultivator in your Forge, and that will allow you to create arable soil.

Finding Seeds
Once you’ve created land to farm on with the Cultivator, you’ll be able to plant seeds.
Seeds aren’t the easiest resource to search for- having to be found out in the wild.
If you’re looking for food, there are two different seeds you can find in Valheim. This includes Carrot Seeds in the Black Forest, and Turnip Seeds in the Swamp.

You’ll also be able to plant trees if you’re in need of wood (or defensive weapons, as trees can do a ton of damage when cut down).
Farming
Once you’ve got seeds, you’ll be able to plant them in your soil. Once you grow your food, you’ll be able to harvest the plant, but won’t get any seeds back.
That means for each plant you farm, you’ll have to go find more seeds after the process.
