The Space Age update is here, and it brings interplanetary exploration to Factorio. So, let’s dive deep into the new planets in the Factorio: Space Age expansion and learn about their exclusive items, natural resources, challenges, and more!

Factorio Planets Guide (Exclusive Items, Resources, & Overview)

Factorio Space Age Planets It’s important to note that the planets in Factorio: Space Age expansion, including Nauvis, are endless. Despite being infinite, the game will only procedurally generate map chunks when needed. It also means that no two planets in different Factorio servers are completely alike. Further, each planet comes with its own unique items, scenarios, and environments to consider before you make the journey across space to find them.

Nauvis

Factorio Nauvis Nauvis, the main planet in Factorio, is Earth-like with various biomes like grasslands and deserts. It has abundant resources like Iron Ore, Coal, Uranium Ore, and more. Despite its seemingly safe appearance, creatures, such as Biters and Spitters. As the factory expands, these enemies become more aggressive, challenging players to enhance their factories’ defenses. Aside from the hostile creatures, Nauvis also presents other challenges to players. For instance, many buildings placed in Nauvis produce pollution. Failure to keep pollution to a minimum may disrupt Nauvis' environment, reducing resource-gathering efforts. Additionally, pollution reaching a spawner can provoke an attack from Biters or Spitters.

Vulcanus

Factorio Vulcanus Vulcanus, the scorching second planet in Factorio, is a chaotic realm of molten lava rivers, volcanic peaks, and ashen plains. Named after the Roman god of fire and metalworking, surviving in this fiery world requires harnessing its raw power and adapting strategies to its extreme conditions, unlike the lush greenery of Nauvis. This fiery planet is also the home of boss-like creatures called Demolishers. Players must defeat these giant worm-like beings to unlock map chunks. Doing so also grants access to valuable resources from the planet, especially Tungsten.

Gleba

Factorio Gleba Gleba, a lush planet with fungal hills and swampy lowlands, is another planet introduced in the Space Age expansion. The planet's abundance of biological resources must be carefully managed due to their perishability. Players must also navigate the planet's ecosystem, combat the spider-like pentapods, and master resource management and biological processing to thrive on Gleba. Additionally, Gleba poses a unique challenge to players – item spoilage. Most biological products on Gleba have an inherent timer that, when reaching 0, causes the item to spoil. The time varies per item, creating a focus on item throughput rather than stockpiling. Below are the spoilable items in Gleba and their expiration periods:
  • Agricultural Science Pack: 1 hour
  • Biter Egg: 30 minutes
  • Bioflux: 2 hours
  • Copper Bacteria: 1 minute
  • Raw Fish: 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 50 seconds
  • Iron Bacteria: 1 minute

Fulgora

Factorio Fulgora Fulgora, a brutal desert world introduced in the Factorio: Space Age expansion, is known for its towering plateaus and treacherous oil sands. Violent lightning storms ravage the planet at night, endangering bases. Players must defend their bases from these natural calamities by placing Lightning Rods, Lightning Collectors, or Fulgoran Lightning Attractors. Despite its dangers, Fulgora presents valuable resources and tests players with challenging conditions. Players must harness the power of lightning to collect and use energy for their factories. This energy collected from lightning is unique to Fulgora, but it’s also essential considering the planet’s weak solar output.

Aquilo

Factorio Aquilo Aquilo, a bleak, freezing ocean planet, features vast liquid ammonia oceans covering its frigid surface. Players must navigate extreme cold by using heat towers and pipes to keep machines operational and strategically placing buildings to avoid issues like reducing factory efficiency. Also, solar panels on this planet only produce 0.6 kW per day or 1% of the solar energy gathering rate on Nauvis. Survival and success on Aquilo require careful planning, resource management, and consideration of the planet's harsh conditions.
