Survival in Core Keeper generally requires spending significant time gathering resources, such as fish. But it can be tough to catch fish without bait, and you need the right ingredients to craft fishing bait in Core Keeper. One of the crafting requirements for a specific type of bait in Core Keeper is Blackbug, and we’re here to guide you on how to farm it!

How to Get Blackbugs in Core Keeper

Core Keeper Blackbug Farm Farming Blackbugs in Core Keeper is a reasonably straightforward affair. Players can find this fairly uncommon critter by breaking different containers throughout the entire map. Note that the game’s various crates have dissimilar Blackbug spawn rates. Below is a list of containers in Core Keeper that can spawn this critter, along with the Blackbug drop chance for each crate:
  • Coral Wood: 15%
  • Gleam Wood: 15%
  • Thorn Wood: 15%
  • Wood: 15%
  • Charred Crate: 30%
  • Driftwood Wooden Crate: 30%
  • Large Charred Crate: 30%
  • Large Driftwood Wooden Crate: 30%
  • Large Overgrown Wooden Crate: 30%
  • Large Wooden Crate: 30%
  • Overgrown Wooden Crate: 30%
  • Wooden Crate: 30%
Your best bet to farm Blackbugs in Core Keeper is by destroying Large Charred, Large Driftwood Wooden, Large Wooden, and Large Overgrown Wooden Crates. These containers share the same spawn chance for this critter, but destroying them can make five to eight Blackbugs appear in an instant. Tip: Use mods and item IDs to collect Blackbugs without the grind. Note that you must use the Bug Net to capture a Blackbug. Craft this tool on the Tin Workbench using 8x Wood and 8x Fiber.

Uses for Blackbugs in Core Keeper: Recipes & Requirements

Core Keeper Blackbug The Blackbug in Core Keeper is an ingredient to craft Spicy Bait (as of Version 1.0.1). Interact with the Bait Workbench to craft 10x Spicy Bait using 1x Blackbug and 1x Bomb Pepper. Alternatively, you can feed a Dodo or Strolly Polly 2x Blackbug or any critter except glowbugs. Doing so helps the cattle produce resources. In particular, the Dodo can produce a Dodo Egg, a cooking ingredient, while the Strolly Polly yields the Strolly Poly Plate, a crafting material for various items like the Galaxite armor set.
