ARK: Survival Evolved Tapejara Species Guide - Stats, How to Tame, Locations, & More
Posted on by justin
ARK survivors looking into soaring the skies on a tamed creature should consider domesticating a Tapejara. However, this creature requires some wits and finesse to tame. With that, here's everything you need to know about the Tapejara in ARK: Survival Evolved, including where you can find it, its base stats, and how to tame it.
What is the Tapejara in ARK: Survival Evolved?
The Tapejara in ARK: Survival Evolved is a skittish flying reptile typically found perched or flying around cliffs and redwood forests. Players can find this creature spawning in different maps: The Island, The Center, Scorched Earth, Ragnarok, Extinction, Valguero, Crystal Isles, Lost Island, and Genesis: Part 2. Despite that, the Tapejara is still uncommon at those locations. But it can be tough to miss once you see its similar appearance to the Pteranodon. Perhaps the most notable difference is that the Tapejara has larger skin flaps connecting the wings than the Pteranodon.Tapejara Base Stats and Growth

Fighting the Tapejara
The Tapejara’s cowardly nature means it doesn’t pose a threat against you or your tames. However, it can be challenging to kill one since the creature flies away reasonably fast. To kill one, wear a Ghillie Suit as you approach the wild Tapejara. Then, hit it with your strongest melee weapon. Alternatively, throw a Bola at it and shoot it down with a range weapon. Another option is to use an AoE attack from one of your tamed creatures.Taming the Tapejara
Players can use different knockout techniques to domesticate a Tapejara in ARK: Survival Evolved. Some methods you may use include the following:Follow With an Ice Wyvern
If you have an Ice Wyvern, you can use it to tame a Tapejara that flies annoyingly high. Mount the wyvern, and set your sights on the wild Tapejara. Don’t forget to set your Ice Wyvern to follow the Tapejara. Next, use a Longneck Rifle to shoot shocking tranquilizer darts at the wild Tapejara. You can also use your Ice Wyvern’s ice breath to slow down the Tapejara if you’re having trouble aiming. But be careful, as the ice breath can kill a Tapejara, especially if your wyvern has a sufficiently high level.Throw Bolas
As mentioned earlier, Tapejaras are skittish creatures. If the wild Tapejara flies away from you as you try to sneak up on it, throw a Bola at it. Throw another Bola (and another) if the Tapejara breaks away from your initial throws.Hit With a Mantis
Another tame to use when domesticating a Tapejara is a Mantis, especially one equipped with a Club. With your Mantis holding a Club, lunge at the Tapejara to quickly increase your target’s Torpor. Again, be careful with your strikes, as a Mantis can still deliver high damage to a Tapejara, killing it. With the Tapejara knocked out, open its inventory and feed it its preferred food options, which are the following:- Preferred Kibble: Superior Kibble
- Preferred Food: Raw Mutton
- Cooked Fish Meat
- Cooked Lamb Chop

The Tapejara in ARK: Survival Evolved makes up for its lack of combat prowess with its versatility as a tamed creature. You can assign it with a range of roles, including the following:- Air Tapejara: Mount a Tapejara and use it to reach locations normally inaccessible on foot. One Tapejara can also carry two passengers at most.
- Skyscraper Builder: Tap the ascend and descend keys to move in increments, allowing for precision building material placement onto tall establishments or structures
- Wyvern Egg Thief: The Tapejara’s exceptional speed and maneuverability allow you to take a wyvern egg from a nest while avoiding confrontation from the pack
